2024 Experiments at the Churchill Marine Observatory

GENICE II researchers are currently at the Churchill Marine Observatory (CMO) conducting its first-ever diesel experiments! Our research team is simulating an oil spill by releasing 160 litres of diesel into the experimental pool of the Ocean-Sea Ice Mesocosm (OSIM). Using an interdisciplinary approach, we are observing how the oil degrades and interacts with water, sea ice, and microbes over time. Stay tuned for updates including detailed blog posts from our microbiology, remote sensing, and chemistry teams!
