GENICE II researchers conducted the first-ever diesel experiments at the Churchill Marine Observatory! Our research team simulated an oil spill by releasing 160 litres of diesel into the experimental pool of the Ocean-Sea Ice Mesocosm. Using an interdisciplinary approach involving microbiology, chemistry, and remote sensing, researchers observed how the oil degrades and interacts with water, sea ice, and microbes over time.
